SpielbergPod - The Steven Spielberg Podcast

The SpielbergPod is a show where me and some friends rewatch the films of Steven Spielberg going through them one at a time . It's a mix of film discussion, humour and just good ol' fashioned conversation among friends. Features of the show include recastings of the films with current day actors, companion pieces to the film and our trademark feature 'Who Am I?'

This week I went to the theatre to see 'Back to the Future the Musical' and decided to record an episode of the SpielbergPod to gather my thoughts on the show (Please note- I make it clear when I'm getting into 'spoiler territory', in case you are thinking of going to see the show).

Oct 4, 2021

This week there's more ER chat as Kieran and I discuss the seventh episode of the second season, 'Hell and High Water'. This is easily one of the shows most popular episodes, which sees Dr Ross (George Clooney) trying to save a child trapped in a storm drain. (Note. The ER episode I recommend Kieran but can't remember the title of was 'Love's Labor Lost')

Sep 19, 2021

In this episode I'm joined by Jev to kick off a run of television associated with Steven Spielberg. We begin with a discussion on the ER episode '24 Hours', which was the very first episode of that show.

Jan 24, 2021

In this episode Kieran and I return to the Jurassic franchise and to our DVD commentary format, as we look at 'Jurassic World' through 2021 eyes.

Jan 2, 2021

In this episode- where I'm joined by Jake, Kieran and Paul- we wrap up this mini-series on the films of the MCU Phase One by discussing the Joss Whedon film, 'The Avengers'.

Expect more than a little conversation on 'Justice League' (including my thoughts on upcoming The Synder Cut), a recasting of the film were being directed by Wes Anderson, lots of Buffy comparisons, jokes about Hawkeye, life with Maria Hill and much, much more.

Dec 23, 2020

In this episode I'm joined by Paul to discuss 'Captain America: The First Avenger' as part of our Marvel/ MCU Phase One coverage.

Expect spoilers for future Marvel films (up to the end of Phase Three) as well as criticism and praise for the film, me comparing the Tory Party with the Nazis and also Paul pondering life as a member of Hydra.

Dec 17, 2020

This week I'm delighted to be joined by special guest David Trumble to discuss the Kenneth Branagh film 'Thor', as part of my festive mini-series of bonus episodes covering the films of the MCU Phase One.

Expect talk of The Lion King, Hemsworth's beard, the British royal family, Loki being a 'Snape looking mother-fucker' and much more.

Dec 13, 2020

Dec 9, 2020

This episode I'm joined by Liam, Matt and Paul- better known as the hosts of Star Trek podcast Spocklight- to discuss 'The Incredible Hulk' as part of my Marvel Phase One coverage.

Dec 5, 2020

In this episode we kick of a festive mini-series looking at the films from Phase 1 of the MCU (the Marvel Cinematic Universe). For this one I'm joined by my co-host Kieran to discuss Jon Favreau's 'Iron Man' (warning- we do spoil future MCU films on these podcasts, so please be aware of that if you haven't seen them).

Nov 9, 2020

This episode is a return to our DVD commentary format as Kieran and I talk about the Don Bluth classic 'An American Tail'.

Jul 13, 2020

Okay, buckle your seatbelts, listeners as I return to the wonderful world of Steve Spielberg, specifically his film 'Duel', but this time around approaching it slightly different to the way Kieran and I talked about it in 2015 (yes, it was that many years ago).  This time around I'm doing it as a DVD commentary, so it's uninterrupted audio with no edits, which means you can expect more than a few tangents. Enjoy!

Apr 6, 2020

In this episode, recorded over the internet as we self-isolate, Paul, Kieran and I discuss Amblin', Steven Spielberg's short film from 1968 (which you can watch for free on YouTube, if you're interested).

Apr 2, 2020

In this episode Kieran and I conclude our three episode mini-series on director Damien Chazelle with a discussion on his film, 'First Man' which stars Ryan Gosling as astronaut Neil Armstong and Claire Foy as his wife, Janet.

Mar 23, 2020

In this episode, recorded back on New Year's Eve in better times, Kieran and I kick off another mini-series, this time covering the films of Damien Chazelle. And we begin with a discussion of his fantastic film, 'Whiplash'.

Mar 7, 2020

To conclude our mini-series covering the films of J.J. Abrams, Kieran and I rank his six directorial efforts from our least to most favourite.

Along the way we reflect on his career to date (including our thoughts on his TV work), what we would like to see next from Abrams as well as talk about 'Barry Lyndon' (naturally), the career of Peter Jackson, Stranger Things and all of the Mission Impossible films (and the importance of Dougray Scott's performance).

In this episode (part of our coverage of the films of J.J. Abrams and also the Star Wars films) Kieran and I discuss the ninth episode of The Skywalker Saga, the somewhat confusingly titled 'The Rise of Skywalker'.

Feb 3, 2020

In this bonus episode, Kieran and I list our top ten favourite films of the 2010s (complete with a smattering of 'honourable' mentions and reflections on a decade of film).

Oct 11, 2019

In this episode we pick back up with the work of J.J. Abrams, as Kieran and I discuss his reboot of 'Star Trek'.

Along the way we talk about a number of things including Abrams TV work, the state of Trek as this film was made, the Marvel approach to films, Star Wars, the use of the Beastie Boys in the film, I compare Kirk to our terrible Prime Minister, 'Equilibrium' and much much more.

Sep 19, 2019

Expect conversation about the Jurassic Park films in general, 'Dante's Peak' and also talk of the Matrix films.

In this bonus episode Becky, Kieran and I discuss have a spoiler-filled chat about a little seen, art film called 'La Avengers: Endgame'.

We talk about the major plot points of this film (again, spoilers ahoy), past and future Marvel films (especially X-Men), the Mama Mia franchise, Byker Grove, socialist Thanos, Captain America pulling a Weekend at Bernies and much much more.
